Her is an interesting topic. I have come across several people who records CD's full of cover songs and sell them at gigs.

Does anyone here do this, and if so, what are the legalities of this practice? I have come across websites for covers musicians who literally have several CD's listed for sale featuring covers of other peoples songs.

I know on the commercial market it is common practice, but at the pub and club level that most of us play, is it viable considering the royalties that must be paid to do this, or are these people doing this illegally and not paying royalties?

Do these people know that they must pay royalties to sell thier versions of other peoples songs?

Your thoughts????

hi geoff
my kids band TEN13 did a cd using 3 originals and 7 covers we had to pay royalaties to apra it doesnt work out to be much about 1cent a song per cd which then goes to the original artist who wrote the song not the artist that makes it famous
